One of the great things that make Scamps easy to collect and fix up is that many times they can be purchased really inexpensive.  For example, my 1974 Scamp was purchased for $900 in fully operational order.  My 71 Scamp was purchased for $600 and made the 60 mile trip home from where I purchased it.  My 1975 Valiant Brougham cost me $400 and another $40 to replace the oil pump to get it running

All my cars needed some work, but they were drivable and were a good base to start from.  Many times they will be in good shape as they are typically owned by people who don't have interests in fixing them up and don't drive them hard.  Here is what you should look for in examining a potential Scamp:

1. Most older Chrysler cars a prone to rear quarter panel rust behind the rear tire.  Spent extra time investigating this area and don't hesitate from snooping around in the trunk.
2. Look under the dash for signs of electrical problems.
3. If the car has a vinyl top, check for rust underneath it.
4. Original interiors on Scamps are typically pretty trashed after 25 or so years.  The vinyl seats and the dash pad will probably need to be replaced.
5. Scamps do not have a full frame under them.  They have two sub-frames, one in front and one in the rear.
6. Check for broken mounts around the grill area.
7. Check for sagging doors.

Determining a Scamps value:
Below is a list of Scamp and Valiant Brougham values from the Old Cars Price Guide, October 2002..  These values are based on a rating of 1 to 6.  6 being a parts car and 1 being a pristine original or very recent full restoration.  For the sake of comparison, most vehicles shown at car shows are generally a 3.
